Edo PDP: Chairman Was Inciting Us Against Obaseki
The acting chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State Hon Harrison Omagbon has said that Dr Tony Aziegbemi was suspended as the substantive chairman of the party for inciting members of the Working Committee against Governor Godwin Obaseki.
His assertion came vide a statement as he assured party members of the readiness of the party to forge unity between all the tendencies in the party.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Aziegbemi was suspended as party chairman vide a vote of 12 of 14 members of the State Working Committee, SWC on June 1. However, GreenWhiteGreen GWG understands that Aziegbemi was, however, made to be the ‘fall guy’ after the SWC took a strong position against Governor Obaseki’s plea to dissolve the party structures. Sources close to Aziegbemi say he has chosen not to make a media war over the issue preferring to settle the crisis amicably.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that the crisis came after Aziegbemi informed the SWC of the proposal he said came from the governor for the dissolution of the party structures to accommodate those who came with him from the All Progressives Congress, APC to join the PDP last June.
The party exco had upon the information written a strongly worded letter to the National Working Committee, NWC in which the national leadership was warned not to dissolve the party to pay heed to the governor. The letter also charged the governor to sack his deputy and put an original PDP member in that position if he was insistent on the dissolution of the structures.
Responding to the unease among party members following the suspension of Aziegbemi upon the claim of inciting PDP members against Obaseki, the acting chairman of the party in Edo State, in a statement made available to  GreenWhiteGreen GWG said:
“Following the recent developments in our great party, I wish to appeal to our teeming members and supporters to first accept our profound regret for the uproar of the last few weeks, as well as the recent developments at the party secretariat. On behalf of the State Working Committee, I am deeply sorry.
Aziegbemi Suspended For Allegedly Inciting Edo PDP Members Against Obaseki
The suspension of the erstwhile State Chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, was borne out of the allegations leveled against him and his confession to his guilt on two of the charges, most importantly the incitement of the expanded Working Committee to write an acrimonious letter to the National Working Committee.
Nobody in the Working Committee wishes Dr. Aziegbemi to be criminalized. However, we cannot wish away our party’s sanctity, integrity and pride on the altar of parochial sentiments. That is why we have set up a committee to investigate and unearth the facts of these allegations.
My dear party faithful, we are at a very auspicious time in our democracy. It is on record that our Governor is counted among those delivering the dividends of democracy to Edo people and Nigerians in general. We cannot engender a party culture of corruption and flagrant disregard for the wishes of the people.
My task as acting Chairman, will be to unite our party and ensure that the unity which our electoral victory bestowed on us is sustained and enlarged, to the Glory of God.
The chairman’s assertion nonetheless, GreenWhiteGreen GWG has gathered from very authoritative party sources that Dr Aziegbemi did not confess to inciting Edo PDP stakeholders against Obaseki and that his supporters are hopeful that he would sooner than later be restored.
