Breaking: Police Urge Caution On Reports Of ISWAP Incursion Of Abuja Outskirts

The Police in Abuja have dismissed as fake the viral news of the incursion of the federal capital by agents of the Islamic State of West African Province, ISWAP.

The police said that the fake report which has gone viral to the effect that a Defence journalist living in the Karshi area of the federal capital was a victim was wholly false. The journalist according to the police has refuted the news as fake.

GWG reports that the news of the incursion of Abuja follows recent security breaches that culminated in the death of some officers and men of the elite Brigade of Guards who were taken down during an ambush allegedly mounted by the terrorists in the Bwari area of Abuja.

In the rebuttal of the ISWAP incursion of Abuja, the police spokesperson, DSP Josephine Addeh said while noting recent efforts by the police in safeguarding the security of the territory nevertheless cautioned the public to be wary of fake news.

She said:

“The latest of such is an erroneous publication in circulation in some sections of the media suggesting a Terrorist invasion of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) into the outskirts of the Territory making war chants as they stormed the Karshi resident of a Defence journalist.

“The news is baseless on all fronts as the said journalist refuted all highlighted parts maliciously amplified to suggest a terrorist invasion. Preliminary investigation also shows that nothing of such happened in the mentioned area and the FCT as a whole.

“Residents are therefore urged to go about their lawful duties without the fear of harassment and molestation of any kind or from any quarters.
