President Bola Tinubu has appointed former minister of special duties and Governor of Benue State, George Akume as the new Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

Tinubu announced Akume’s appointment during a meeting with Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) on Friday in Abuja.

The President also officially appointed Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff, and Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, as Deputy Chief of Staff.

A statement issued by Director of Information, State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, confirmed the appointment.

GWG.ng reports that Akume has been a long time ally of Tinubu’s and was his initial choice for president of the Senate before geopolitical and other considerations pushed forward Senator Ahmad Lawan into his permutation in 2015 and then in 2019.
