Breaking: Nigeria Survive Penalty, Red Card To Pull Draw With Canada In FIFA Women’s World Cup

Nigeria suffered a red card and survived a penalty kick as the African giants opened appearance in the Women’s World Cup in the game with fellow group B contenders, Canada.
The heroine for Nigeria was goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie who saved a penalty kick awarded Canada in the 48th minute following a VAR review.
As the game ended about 5.30 a.m. Nigerian time on Friday morning, Chiamaka got down on her knees in appreciation of the draw, which is the country’s first in the 27 games the country has played in the competition.
Nigeria midfielder, Deborah Abiodun was shown a red card in the seventh minute of the eight-minute extra time at the end of the game when a VAR review determined her tackle of a Canadian player as rough.
Nigeria is to play co-host, Australia in the next match.
GWG.ng reports that Nigeria entered the game with Canada and indeed the FIFA World Cup tournament talking place in Australia and New Zeland against the background of a crisis between the country’s Football Association and the coach of the female national team, Randy Waldrum over accusations of indiscretions he levelled against the FA.
