By Gideon Ayeni
In a candid conversation on the Zero Conditions podcast, renowned music producer Don Jazzy opened up about the driving force behind his success – a poignant memory of his humble beginnings.
The iconic music producer shared how his early days of selling akara (bean cakes) with his mother in the streets of Ajegunle laid the foundation for his remarkable journey.
Don Jazzy recalled with vivid detail the scenes of his childhood, sitting beside his mother as they fried akara and hoped for a breakthrough.
He fondly reminisced about watching “big men” pass by in their Peugeot 504s and Mercedes 230s, yearning for them to take notice and extend a helping hand. “I wish this man would just look at me and go, ‘Young boy, just take this, I know that you need it,’ or something like that,” he mused.
Fast forward to today, Don Jazzy’s climb to success has been imbued with the values instilled during those early days. He expressed his belief that many who claim to have suffered might not have truly experienced the depth of adversity.
This perspective, shaped by his own experiences, has guided his actions as a successful individual. Don Jazzy affirmed that he finds it impossible to encounter anyone in need without offering assistance or giving back to the community that helped mould him into the success that he is today.
“I have a problem with people meeting me and not getting impacted,” Don Jazzy asserted, emphasizing his commitment to positively influencing the lives of those he encounters. His journey from the streets of Ajegunle to becoming a music mogul has not only led to his personal success but has also fostered a strong sense of responsibility to uplift others.
