In an eye-opening investigative report on the japa fever in Nigeria by Sky News UK, a Nigerian woman has come forward to reveal that she fell victim to a scam after paying a hefty sum of 10,000 Pounds (equivalent to approximately N9.7 million) to secure a job opportunity in the UK.

The woman, while still in Nigeria, aspired to relocate to the UK for employment and diligently saved the required funds for this purpose. She engaged the services of a visa agent who assured her of a work visa and claimed to have secured a job offer for her through a UK sponsor.

However, upon her arrival in the UK, the harsh reality set in as she discovered that the promised job did not exist, and she had fallen prey to scammers. Her ordeal is not isolated, as another Nigerian couple faced a similar predicament. They had even sold their property and taken a loan to relocate to the UK, only to find out that the job prospects promised by the Nigerian visa agent were nonexistent. Like the first victim, they too lost 10,000 pounds (N9.7 million) in the process.

These distressing incidents associated with japa underscore the importance of verifying the legitimacy of visa agents and job offers operating from Nigeria when seeking opportunities abroad to avoid falling victim to such scams.
