Controversies trailing Mr Ibu

The family of late veteran actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has sparked outrage by soliciting funds for his burial despite a previous controversy surrounding donations for his medical treatment.

Last month, the family announced a five-day funeral ceremony, culminating in his burial on June 28, 2024. However, in a recent update, the central planning committee, comprising family and friends, appealed to the public for donations to ensure a successful burial. They cited the high cost of his medical treatment, which reportedly consumed millions of naira, as the reason for their request.

The family has launched a GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs, but this move has angered many who recall the controversy surrounding donations for Mr. Ibu’s medical treatment. During his illness, millions were contributed to support his care, but reports emerged of family members fighting over the funds for personal gain.
