Peter Obi 2027 Vice

Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, has denied claims that he would run as a vice-presidential candidate in the 2027 election.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Obi responded to what he described as a misunderstanding of a recent interview he gave. He accused some individuals of deliberately spreading false information to distort his message.

The former governor of Anambra State expressed concern over the focus on 2027 while Nigerians continue to struggle with issues such as hunger, poverty, and insecurity. He stressed that his priority is addressing the immediate problems facing the country, rather than planning for future political positions.

“I do not want to be one of those preoccupied with 2027 while Nigerians are suffering from hunger, poverty, insecurity, and other pressing challenges,” Obi stated.

He further explained that he is open to collaborating with those who genuinely share his vision for moving Nigeria forward. However, he clarified that he is not desperate for any political office but is deeply committed to seeing Nigeria succeed.

“I explicitly stated my openness to working with others, provided their intentions were not centred on state capture,” Obi said, emphasizing that he remains dedicated to the Labour Party.

Obi also warned that anyone looking to form alliances must be transparent about their goals. As for his future political plans, he emphasized that if he runs in 2027, it will not be with those focused solely on power or winning elections. Instead, he wants a clear plan on how to solve real issues such as providing education for out-of-school children, improving healthcare, and lifting people out of poverty.

“When 2027 arrives, if I decide to run for any office, it will not be with those whose sole aim is state capture or merely winning an election,” Obi affirmed.
