Why Reports Of Pastor Shyngle Wigwe Disinheriting Grandchildren Were Rebuffed

The family of the late banking executive, Herbert Wigwe, has firmly denied recent media reports suggesting that Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, Herbert’s father, is planning to disinherit his grandchildren from their father’s estate while seeking 20% of the inheritance.

In an official statement, the family expressed deep disappointment over these unsubstantiated rumors, calling them false and hurtful, particularly as they continue to mourn the loss of Herbert Wigwe. They emphasized their unwavering commitment to preserving his legacy and ensuring that his children will receive their rightful inheritance.

The press statement, signed by a family representative, Emeka Wigwe, categorically dismissed claims of any internal dispute over the late bank executive’s estate. The statement addressed the falsehoods circulating in two recent articles, which claimed that the family was embroiled in a legal battle over the distribution of Herbert Wigwe’s assets.

“We, the family of Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, wish to formally address two recent articles—one titled ‘Family Dispute Erupts Over Estate of Late Banking Executive Herbert Wigwe’ and another titled ‘Herbert Wigwe’s Estate: Parents File Caveat to Disinherit Children,’ both published on October 13, 2024. These reports, unfortunately, have gained significant traction across social and national media. While we respect the press’s role in informing the public, it is imperative that such reports are grounded in truth and accuracy,” the statement read.

The family clarified that Pastor Shyngle Wigwe has never sought 20% of the estate, nor has he ever made any move to disinherit his grandchildren. They called the allegations “entirely false and grossly misleading,” emphasizing Pastor Wigwe’s commitment to family unity and well-being.

“As a devoted Christian and loving father, Pastor Wigwe has always prioritized the well-being and unity of his family. Any assertions to the contrary are not only unfounded but also misrepresent his values and intentions,” the statement added.

The family also noted that accurate details concerning the estate are available at the Probate Registry and that any fact-checking or inquiry would have dispelled the false narratives circulating in the media.

“During this painful period of grief, our family remains focused on healing and growing stronger together. We are not interested in engaging in public disputes or rebuttals, as there are no sides to take—only the simple truth that we are all navigating an immeasurable loss with grace and dignity.”

The Wigwe family urged the public to remember Herbert Wigwe for his contributions as a visionary banker and philanthropist. His remarkable transformation of Access Bank and his charitable work through The HOW Foundation, which focuses on education and healthcare, should be celebrated, they said, rather than overshadowed by harmful speculation.

The family concluded by urging journalists and the public to verify information before sharing or publishing stories, stressing that misinformation could damage both the family’s reputation and Herbert Wigwe’s enduring legacy.

“We respectfully urge all those concerned with preserving the good legacy of Herbert Wigwe to fact-check stories before publication. The consequences of publishing misinformation can be extremely damaging to the reputation of the family and the cherished legacy Herbert left behind,” the statement concluded.

The Wigwe family remains focused on honoring Herbert’s memory and ensuring that his children are well cared for, as intended by their late father.
