Nigerian Woman, 27 Explains How She Killed 25-Year-Old Husband While He Slept
By Benjamin Abioye
A tragic incident occurred in Lafiyagi Dzwafu village, Katcha Local Government Area, where a 27-year-old woman, Fatima Dzuma, was arrested for allegedly killing her 25-year-old husband, Baba Aliyu. The killing took place just before a naming ceremony for a child born to Aliyu’s first wife.
Reports suggest that Fatima Dzuma married Aliyu three years ago, after divorcing her first husband. However, the couple had not been able to have children together, and they were frequently involved in heated arguments. The incident occurred on the night of a particularly violent dispute, where Aliyu reportedly assaulted Dzuma before leaving their home.
In her confession, Dzuma admitted to killing her husband, attributing her actions to ongoing tensions and physical abuse in their relationship. She explained, “When he came back, he went to bed. I used a rope to tie his neck, and he could not struggle. I hit him with a pestle three times, twice on his head and once on his hand. I took advantage of his deep sleep.”
Fatima Dzuma further explained that after the killing, she hid her husband’s body by wrapping it in a mat and dragging it into a nearby bush. She then cleaned the blood and excrement that had spilled from his body. When asked why she killed him, Dzuma said that a recent argument, during which she told her husband she no longer loved him, led to him beating her. This, she claimed, sparked her violent response.
For three days, Fatima Dzuma denied any knowledge of her husband’s whereabouts while his family searched for him. However, she eventually confessed to the crime. She stated that she acted alone, without any assistance from others.
The police later found Baba Aliyu’s body in the bush near the house. The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, confirmed that Dzuma confessed to the murder, detailing how she used a pestle to strike her husband while he slept, tied him with rope, and discarded the body in the bush. The body was taken to a hospital for a post-mortem, and Dzuma was placed in custody. DSP Wasiu further stated, “She will soon be transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and prosecution.”
