Ohanaeze Ndigbo Tinubu 2027 Election

Ahead of the 2027 general election, a faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group appealed to the president to use his authority to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), by 2025.

Isiguzoro stressed that Kanu’s release would not only be an act of mercy, but a crucial step in restoring peace and addressing the ongoing insecurity in the Southeast region. He highlighted that peace cannot thrive amid violence and conflict, emphasizing the importance of stability for the region’s well-being.

The group also urged the government to prioritize the completion of key rehabilitation and reconstruction projects on the region’s federal roads. These projects, under the supervision of Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, are seen as essential for fostering economic development and social harmony. Ohanaeze insisted that these roads must be completed by the end of 2026.

The statement also touched on the significance of Nigeria’s unwritten agreement on rotational presidency between the North and South, calling it a foundation of fairness and equity in the country’s democracy. The group reiterated that, with the North having completed an eight-year presidency under Muhammadu Buhari, the South should continue to hold the presidency from 2023 to 2031.

In addressing the current political climate, Ohanaeze criticized the opposition for its lack of unity and leadership. The organization warned against political maneuvers that could undermine the collective goals of the Igbo people, recalling the negative outcomes of previous alliances with politicians like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in 2019.

The statement also outlined several measures for advancing the Southeast, including accurate representation in the 2025 Census to reflect ethnic and religious demographics. Additionally, it called for the creation of new states like Anioma in the South-South and Aba in the Southeast. Key economic projects, such as reopening the Calabar Seaport, revitalizing the Enugu Coal Mine, establishing the Akwete Blue River Deep Seaport, and upgrading the region’s railway networks, were also highlighted as vital for the region’s economic growth.

Finally, Ohanaeze emphasized the need for unity among the Igbo people, urging them to rally around a vision of peace, infrastructural development, and regional progress. The group reaffirmed its commitment to the Southeast, pledging to work toward a brighter and more stable future for the region.
