The Nigerian Police Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, has confirmed the arrest of Idowu Smart Emmanuel, also known as Lil Smart, for criminal defamation, cyberstalking, and spreading falsehoods against singer Naira Marley.
In a press briefing, Adejobi explained that the arrest of Lil Smart followed a petition filed by a law firm. According to the police, operatives from the National Cybercrime Unit apprehended the suspect, a native of Ijebu Igbo in Ogun State, for making false allegations against Naira Marley.
The police statement noted, “Following a petition filed by a law firm, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime arrested one Idowu Smart Emmanuel, a native of Ijebu Igbo, Ogun State, for criminal defamation, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, and falsehood against Abdulazeez Adeshina Fashola (A.K.A Naira Marley).”
Investigations revealed that Lil Smart used his Instagram handle @lilsmart_ to falsely claim that he had been abducted, assaulted, and robbed of $300. Lil Smart also accused Naira Marley of bribing all the police officers in Lagos and being involved in credit card fraud. The suspect later admitted in writing that these allegations were false and had no evidence to support his claims.
