Burial Plans Unveiled For Former Minister

Burial arrangements of Emmanuel Nsan, a former Minister of Health during General Muhammadu Buhari’s military administration has been announced.

GWG.ng gathered that the former minister of health passed away at the age of 77 on Thursday December 12, 2024 after a prolonged illness.

A respected public servant and former broadcaster, Nsan was known for his dedication to governance and national development. He is survived by his wife, Lolo Gladys Nsan.

His death has drawn tributes from various quarters, including Comrade Archibong Bassey, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), who described him as a significant figure whose leadership impacted his family, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Cross River State, and Nigeria at large. Senator Florence Ita-Giwa also paid homage to his legacy, acknowledging his contributions to the country in multiple capacities.

The late minister’s family announced that his funeral will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, with a burial ceremony following a funeral mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Catholic Church in Calabar.

His son, Chief Paul Ita Nsan, praised his father’s selfless service, generosity, and dedication to the well-being of others, emphasizing that his impact would continue to inspire future generations.

Nsan rose to national prominence at the age of 36 when he was appointed Federal Minister of Works and Housing in 1984. He later became Minister of Health (1984–1985).

Beyond his ministerial roles, he held several leadership positions, including Commissioner at the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (Abuja) and Chairman of the Calabar Capital City Development Authority (CCDA, now CUDA).
