Aruna Out 2025 ITTF World Cup

Quadri Aruna has been knocked out of the 2025 ITTF World Cup in Macao after losing 4-0 to Sweden’s Anton Kallberg, ending Africa’s hopes of advancing to the next round.

African players have ended their journey at the 2025 ITTF World Cup in Macao, China, after failing to qualify for the next round of the tournament.

Egypt’s Dina Meshref, Omar Assar, Hana Goda, and Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna were all knocked out in the first stage.

Omar Assar, who needed a win to continue, was the first to lose. He was defeated 3-1 by South Korea’s Jaehyun. Although Assar is the 2025 ITTF Africa Cup champion, he couldn’t overpower his Korean opponent. After the match, Jaehyun said, “I played well today. Assar is an excellent player, so I did a lot of pre-match preparations, and it seems I executed them well.”

Dina Meshref also gave a strong effort but lost 3-1 to China’s Man Kuai. Kuai appreciated Meshref’s talent and said, “It’s our first encounter, and my opponent is gifted with great strength. At the beginning of the first game, I played a little too cautiously, which gave Meshref a huge opportunity to win. After losing game 1, I didn’t give up and focused on each point.”

Young Egyptian star Hana Goda also exited the competition after a 3-1 loss to top European player Sofia Polcanova, despite showing a good performance.

Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna was the last African still in the tournament. He had a promising start against Sweden’s Anton Kallberg but ended up losing 4-0. This result meant Aruna also missed out on the second stage.
