Gunman Bokkos Church Plateau

Officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Plateau State arrested a man on Sunday morning who was allegedly carrying a gun near a church in Bokkos Local Government Area.

The arrest happened around 8:30 a.m. during a routine patrol, after officers received intelligence about possible suspicious activity in the area. When they searched the man, they reportedly found a firearm in his possession. However, he could not provide any legal documents or reasonable explanation for having the weapon.

According to security expert Zagazola Makama, a source familiar with the situation said, “The suspect was found in possession of a gun and could not provide any satisfactory explanation or legal documentation for it. The swift action of our operatives helped prevent what could have escalated into a serious security breach.”

So far, the man’s name and full details have not been released, as officials say investigations are still ongoing.

However, the arrest has stirred a storm of mixed reactions online. Some social media users have called for extreme actions. “Terrorists are to be sent to God for judgement,” wrote @UsGarba. Another user, @yanjumoney, added, “Send him to God. ASAPUUUUU.”

But others raised serious concerns about fairness and double standards. @realchado questioned the NSCDC’s priorities, saying, “Same NSCDC that weren’t present when Fulani terrorist kids over 100 persons, including children in Plateau?” Similarly, @the_mordern noted, “Inside Church? And they used to blame innocent Fulani always.”

Some people even suggested the man might not have been a threat. @FrancisOdo1 wrote, “Let them ask him very well. He might be protecting the church because even church is not safe too. I no believe all this interrogation oo.” Others demanded transparency, like @m_jamz who said, “Please give us update on his name, the church premises he was found in and the motive behind having a firearm in his possession.”

There were also strong reactions regarding ethnicity and the slow release of information. One commenter said, “He’s not a Fulani man so they won’t reveal his tribe and name. May God punish them all,” while another added, “Which one be identity not yet released? Abegi make ona call name.”

Despite the sharp divisions in public opinion, many agree on one point: security in Nigeria remains fragile, and incidents like this raise more questions than answers. While the NSCDC says investigations are ongoing, the public is demanding clarity, fairness, and swift communication from the authorities.
