Police Inspector Kills Self In Port Harcourt

Maxwell Zubu, a police inspector in Rivers State, allegedly shot himself on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt for reasons yet unknown.
A police inspector serving in the Rivers State Police Command has reportedly taken his own life in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt.
The officer, identified as Maxwell Zubu, was working as a security aide to a former local government chairman. The reasons behind his actions are still unclear at this time.
The incident was quickly reported to the nearby police post in Eagle Island, which falls under the control of Azikiwe Police Division in Port Harcourt. Officers from that division were said to have arrived at the scene as part of the early investigation.
“Some policemen from the Azikiwe Police Division visited the scene as part of preliminary investigation procedures,” one police source shared.
The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command confirmed the inspector’s death but avoided giving further details, as investigations are ongoing.
“Yes, I can confirm, but we have commenced an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident, and we will make our findings public,” she said.
She added that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for deeper investigation.
