The World Athletics Championships Oregon 22, World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi, the European Championships, the NACAC Championships, the Commonwealth Games, and various other regional and U20 area championships – of course, were on top of the Wanda Diamond League and the Continental Tour circuits in some of the season’s highlights published on Wednesday by the world athletics ruling body.
Amusan’s world record in the women’s 100m hurdles in Oregon, United States, was among the 22 memorable moments from the 2022 athletics action.
“At first, many questioned the timing system,” World Athletics wrote after ratifying her 12.12secs feat in the semifinal in Oregon. Could someone really break the world record in a semifinal by that much? Tobi Amusan’s 12.12 time in the 100m hurdles at the World Championships was soon proven to be legitimate, as she went even faster in the final with a wind-assisted 12.06.”
Recall that Tobi Amusan walked away with a cheque of $100,000 for breaking the World record in the women’s 100m hurdles event in Eugene, Oregon.
Amusan won the final in a wind-assisted time of 12.06s better than the 12.12s she ran in the semis. The time was later ruled ineligible as the wind speed exceeded the legal limit.
Amusan who is the current Commonwealth Champion beat Jamaica’s Britany Anderson who finished second and Olympic Champion from Cuba, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn who came third.
