The Edo State Government has announced that Friday, September 20, will be a public holiday.

This break is meant to allow workers and residents to travel to their voting locations before the governorship election on Saturday.

In a statement on Thursday, the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Joseph Eboigbe, assured the public that necessary security measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and credible election process.

The statement reads, “The Edo State Government has declared Friday, September 20, as a work-free day. This will allow workers and other eligible voters to travel to their respective voting areas ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the state.”

The government also wished everyone safe travels and emphasized that security arrangements are in place for a free, fair, and credible election.

With the election drawing near, there is a noticeable increase in security presence, as the three major political parties—People’s Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC), and Labour Party—continue their campaigns in the final hours.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that all political campaigns must end by midnight on Thursday.
