APC Slams ‘Bitter ‘Rotimi Amaechi

Amaechi contempt

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, accusing him of inciting Nigerians against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The APC leadership claimed that Amaechi’s comments were aimed at undermining the government’s efforts and creating division among citizens.

The backlash follows recent media reports in which Rotimi Amaechi expressed dissatisfaction with what he perceived as the lack of unified action by Nigerians in confronting poor governance. His remarks appear to have struck a nerve with the APC, prompting a sharp response from the party.

In a statement signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party condemned Amaechi’s remarks, calling them “insensitive, god-awful, and unpatriotic.” Morka described the former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Transport as one of Nigeria’s longest-serving political figures, who had greatly benefited from the system he now seeks to criticize.

The statement read: “For almost all his adult life, Rotimi Amaechi has been a leechy dependent on state resources, enjoying official patronage, and playing a key role in the economic devastation of our country. His sudden empathy and incitement to violence are hypocritical and dangerous.”

The APC further suggested that Amaechi’s outburst was driven by bitterness following his loss in the party’s 2023 presidential race. According to the statement, the former governor has since allied himself with opposition figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso—leaders who were described as “tribesmen of naysayers.”

Morka added: “If those in power ‘steal money,’ as Amaechi mischievously claimed, how come he cannot afford to ‘buy diesel’ just two years after benefiting from over 24 years in power as Speaker, Governor, and Minister? The only real anger Amaechi and his fellow tribesmen feel is that they are no longer in power—a decision made by Nigeria’s ultimate political authority, the electorate.”

The APC emphasized that Rotimi Amaechi’s criticism of the Tinubu administration is baseless and that Nigerians are aware of the temporary discomforts caused by the government’s economic reforms. The party assured that these reforms would lead to lasting transformative changes for the nation.

The statement continued: “It is nauseating that these naysayer tribesmen, who failed to improve Nigeria’s economy while in office, now claim to know how things should be done. They discover their talents for governance only when out of power. Rotimi Amaechi and his allies refuse to acknowledge the bold steps the APC government is taking to revive the economy for the benefit of future generations.”

The APC accused Amaechi of ignoring the ongoing crisis in Rivers State, a region he once governed, instead choosing to fuel national unrest. “Weaponizing protest and exploiting the citizens’ economic challenges for selfish political purposes is irresponsible and unpatriotic,” Morka stated.

The APC urged Nigerians to reject the call for unrest allegedly pushed by Rotimi Amaechi and his partisan allies. Instead, the party called on citizens to remain patient and supportive of President Tinubu’s administration as it continues its efforts to transform Nigeria’s economy.
