“I Have Lost A Valued Friend” Buhari Mourns
By Benjamin Abioye

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep sorrow over the death of energy expert Da Yohanna Dalyop, calling him a valued friend he had known for decades.
Buhari praised Dalyop’s significant contributions to alternative energy research and his commitment to finding sustainable energy solutions for homes and institutions in Nigeria.
He mourned alongside Dalyop’s family, friends, and colleagues, and extended his condolences to the government and people of Plateau State. Buhari remarked, “With the demise of Yohanna Dalyop, I have lost a valued friend, whom I have had the honour of knowing for decades. His insight on issues and nuanced understanding of matters, especially energy, had very few parallels. Yohanna dedicated much of his energy and time to the research and development of alternative energy sources. He was a great statesman and a towering intellectual. His passing away is very saddening.”
Meanwhile, Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has voiced concerns about the party’s future in the 2027 presidential election. Momodu warned that the current crisis within the PDP might hinder its chances of fielding a presidential candidate in the next election.
In an interview with Arise News, he pointed the finger at President Bola Tinubu and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for the turmoil within his party. “I’m not worried about members that are adopted. That would be the decision of the members of the party, if the party survives till then. But from what I’m seeing right now, I don’t think they are ready, especially our NWC. They are not ready. I won’t be surprised if they announce that they are not interested in contesting the presidency in 2027,” he said.
Momodu also clarified that his criticism of President Tinubu’s government was rooted in the political crisis being instigated by his allies. “Personally, I have nothing against the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, but I’m worried. As a man who made a huge impact as a pro-democracy activist, it is obvious that his cronies are misbehaving all over the place and making it difficult for the opposition to thrive,” he stated.
He further remarked that the President would eventually realize that his political allies are primarily interested in maintaining their own relevance, rather than genuine loyalty. “The maximum they would do is eight years, so after that, what next? It’s not about how long, it’s about how well. That’s why I’m advising a lot of people now who are holding onto Asiwaju; he would think they love him—No! It’s self-preservation because they lost out in one party, they ran to Asiwaju, and now they are using him as an umbrella when they should be holding the broom,” he added.
