New Vistas Beckon For Wase As Mutfwang Visits
By Marie-Therese Nanlong

Jos – To enhance the economic life of the rural communities and add value to the economy, the Plateau State government is set to revitalize the redundant Wase Game Reserve and ensure development in the livestock subsector.
The State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang who visited Wase local government area of the State on Monday for an on-the-spot visit to the Game Reserve used the opportunity to commission a TV/Radio station, and other projects.
He stated that the state would be deliberate in the cultivation of animal feed for both local use and export and such would enhance the economic fortunes of local communities.
Governor Mutfwang decried the illegal occupation of portions of the Game Reserve by bandits, and stressed that security measures will be strengthened in collaboration with local communities and security agencies to reclaim the land for economic purposes.

His words “With the vast expanse of land within the Game Reserve, Plateau State has the potential to lead Nigeria in strengthening livestock development for both local consumption and international markets. As part of the plan, 30 hectares of land have been earmarked for the cultivation of Napier grass—an essential feed for livestock. This initiative is expected to boost local animal husbandry while also generating internal revenue through exportation.
“I have come to inspect this vast grazing reserve in Wase in order to activate Mr. President’s vision of developing Nigeria’s livestock economy. Here on the Plateau, we have a unique opportunity to take the lead in this sector. This Game Reserve has existed since the era of Northern Nigeria, yet it has not been effectively utilized. Today, a significant portion of this land is occupied by bandits. However, because we must grow our economy, we will work closely with security agencies and local communities to flush them out.

“For genuine pastoralists, we will integrate them into a modern livestock economy where they can thrive. Boreholes are already being dug to support the cultivation of Napier grass, which we aim to produce in quantities large enough for export. I call upon community leaders to work with us in securing this environment so that we can maximize the blessings that God has bestowed upon this land. When we harness these resources properly, the local communities will be the primary beneficiaries.
“Every enlightened son of Wase, particularly in the Lamba District, must take up the responsibility of advocating for this economic revival. In the near future, we will see the realization of President Tinubu’s vision, which I share passionately. Our goal is to establish the livestock economy as a major revenue source for the State. This is a win-win situation, and we must embrace the future rather than remain stuck in the past.”

Responding, the Ward Head of Dem 13, Nasarawa, and Yola Wakat Wards in the Lamba District, Daiyubu Muhammad, according to a statement by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, assured the Governor of the community’s full cooperation in ensuring the success of the livestock economy initiative for the benefit of both Wase and the state at large.
During his visit, Governor Mutfwang also paid homage to the Emir of Wase, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Sambo Haruna, at his palace. He encouraged peaceful coexistence among communities and urged district and ward heads to actively drive the transformation process. He commended the Emir for fostering strong communal ties with various ethnic groups within and beyond the state.
Meanwhile, Governor Mutfwang, alongside the Wase Local Government Chairman, Anani Hamisu, commissioned several key projects, including an ICT Centre, a Corpers’ Lodge, and Wase TV/Radio FM 90.03. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of legislative quarters for the Wase Local Government Area.
