Fubara Denies Allegations Of Militant Links
By Gideon Ayeni

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has strongly denied allegations linking him to militant activities in the state, dismissing the claims as politically motivated falsehoods.
The controversy arose after Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, alleged in an article that intelligence reports warned of imminent militant attacks aimed at disrupting Nigeria’s oil production.
According to Onanuga, the militants were allegedly awaiting Fubara’s signal before President Tinubu intervened by imposing emergency rule in Rivers State.
The federal government’s action led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for six months. In their place, retired Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok-Ette Ibas, was appointed as the state’s sole administrator, a move that was swiftly approved by the National Assembly.
In response to the allegations, Fubara, through a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, categorically denied any involvement with militant groups. He insisted that his administration remains committed to maintaining peace and security in Rivers State.
Fubara also urged residents to disregard misleading reports and fake videos circulating online, which falsely suggest explosions and unrest in the state. He called on bloggers and social media users to refrain from spreading misinformation designed to create panic.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal group or elements, anywhere in the state or Niger Delta, to undertake any action inimical to the peace of the people or the security of oil and gas facilities, and by extension, the economy of the country,” the statement read.
Fubara further emphasized that peace remains his top priority, stating that governance and development can only thrive in a stable environment.
He also issued a stern warning to those attempting to exploit the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, stressing that anyone seeking to incite violence or economic sabotage must stay away.
As tensions continue to rise in Rivers State, political observers are closely watching how the situation unfolds, with growing concerns over the federal government’s intervention and the broader implications for governance in the Niger Delta region.
