Newly Married Man Shot Dead Nasarawa

Gunmen on Wednesday night attacked a village in Nasarawa State killing a man who had just recently gotten married and kidnapping his wife.

The sad event happened in Akaleku village, Obi Local Government Area, around 11 p.m. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers stormed the couple’s home, shot the husband, and took the wife away.

The victims, Mr. and Mrs. Alu Anzaku, got married only two weeks earlier, on April 12, 2025. Their wedding had just taken place, and they were still enjoying their early days together.

The village, which lies along the Lafia/Markurdi Highway, is in an area known for increasing cases of insecurity caused by banditry and communal conflict. People in the community are now scared, and the family of the kidnapped woman is worried about her safety, as she has not been found yet.

In a separate incident, a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Ibrahim Amos, was also kidnapped by armed men early Thursday morning in Kurmin Risga, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet confirmed the kidnapping in a statement.
