Sacked Minister, Mamman: Why I Went To Hospital

The recently sacked minister of power, Sale Mamman has said that he did not slump after getting news of his sack saying that his illness rather preceded the public announcement of his sack.

Speaking to the BBC, the former minister said that his doctor insisted he remained in the hospital after the public announcement of the sack in order to avoid the stress from visitors coming on sympathy visits to his residence.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Sale Mamman and Sabo Nanono on Wednesday became the first ministers to be fired in the six-year stewardship of the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

Speaking to BBC Hausa Service in a telephone interview, Mamman said he had been ill before the news of the sack.

“Even before the sack was announced, I have been seriously ill. I had not even gone to the office since earlier in the week.”

“So, yesterday (Wednesday) and today (Thursday) I also went back to the hospital for another round of check-up; and the doctor instructed that I needed some ‘rest’ so I remained at one place to rest,” he said.

“I found a serene and quiet environment to rest and take medication as recommended by the doctor. I didn’t stay at home because sympathisers are trooping to console me; this would prevent me from resting and convalescing on time.

“But I was also not hospitalised, and I didn’t faint as reported.”

‘Buhari told me of my sack over the phone’

The former minister said that President Buhari called him over the telephone on Monday night to intimate him of his sack.

“Whether I am fired or not, I must step down in two years away,” he said.

Recalling his entry into the cabinet in 2019, he said since he did not lobby to enter the government that he would not be overwhelmed with emotion.

According to him, he was called to submit his CV, “And within two hours; I was informed that I’ve been appointed minister.”
