Gbajabiamila Resigns From House Of Reps Today
Femi Gbajabiamila, former Speaker and new Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu is expected to resign as a member of the House of Representatives on the floor of the House on Wednesday, bringing to an end six consecutive terms as representative of the Surulere 1 Constituency since 2003.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on June 2 appointed Gbajabiamila as his Chief of Staff even while he held office as speaker of the House of Representatives.

Before his appointment, Gbajabiamila had on February 25, 2023 won the Surulere I Federal Constituency election for the sixth consecutive time.
However, his recent appointment had raised concerns as to how he would manage both roles owing to the fact that the former Speaker was on Tuesday inaugurated alongside his colleagues for the 10th Assembly.
According to Channels, the lawmaker will on Wednesday (today) tender his resignation after which the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will conduct a fresh election to fill the seat.
GWG.ng reports that before Gbajabiamila took the decision to resign that controversy had dogged the role the former speaker played in the election of his successor.
He was openly accused of bias and of masterminding the campaign for the emergence of Tajudeen Abbas as speaker to the detriment of some of his deputy, Idris Wase and other more prominent contestants for the office.
