Nigeria Customs Service Opens 2025 Recruitment
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has officially opened applications for recruitment to fill various positions in the Superintendent, Inspector, and Customs Assistant cadres for 2025.
The recruitment follows the approval to the Customs service by the Nigerian government to recruit 3,927 officers to strengthen its workforce. The recruitment is part of the NCS’s ongoing efforts to boost trade facilitation and contribute to the country’s economic recovery.
In its announcement, the Nigerian Customs Service cautioned applicants to beware of scammers who may attempt to exploit the recruitment process. The NCS emphasized, “Our recruitment process is completely FREE and FAIR. We DO NOT charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process. If anyone demands payment, they are scammers.”
The basic eligibility requirements for applicants include being a Nigerian citizen by birth, having a valid National Identification Number (NIN), and having no criminal record or ongoing investigations. The academic requirements for each cadre vary: for the Superintendent cadre, applicants must have a university degree or HND, along with an NYSC discharge certificate or exemption. For the Inspectorate cadre, applicants need a National Diploma (ND) or Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE). For the Customs Assistant cadre, a minimum of O’Level (WAEC or NECO) is required.
In addition, all applicants for recruitment into the Nigerian Customs Service must be physically and mentally fit. They will need to provide proof of medical fitness from a recognized government hospital.
Applications opened on December 27, 2024, and will close on January 2, 2025. Interested candidates can apply through the NCS recruitment portal at https://recruitment.customs.gov.ng.
The decision to recruit more officers was discussed during the NCS’s 61st quarterly board meeting held on December 18, 2024. This meeting followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presentation of the 2025 national budget, which outlines an ambitious N48 trillion expenditure plan, with N35 trillion in expected revenue. The NCS has already generated over N5 trillion by November 2024 and will play a key role in meeting the revenue target. Additionally, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has also started recruitment to strengthen its operations.
