Kenyan runner Edwin Kibet won the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon in the men’s category on Saturday, taking home a $50,000 prize.

Kibet completed the 42km race in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 6 seconds, securing first place. This victory marked a big improvement from last year when he finished third.

Last year’s winner, Bernard Sang, had a slower time of 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 49 seconds. Another Kenyan, Cheprot, came second in that race.

In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa claimed victory, reinforcing the dominance of East African runners in the competition.

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon remains a major event for long-distance runners, with athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia continuing to excel in the race.
