God Does Not Give Out Awards But … – Abuja Cleric
By GWG Religion Editor
Unlike men who give out awards to dignitaries, God does not give out awards but rewards His own based on faith, Abuja-based cleric, Arc Ike Ugwuanyi has said.
In a message to the congregation at the Hospital Chapel, National Hospital, Abuja, Pastor Ugwuanyi said that God relates with people based on their faith and rewards them as such.
Speaking on the topic, “And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see..” under the theme of the quarter, ‘Active Faith,’ Ugwuanyi said that God relates with men based on their faith. Quoting Hebrews 11:6, he said that the basic ingredient men can use to please God is the faith they have in Him.
Noting that the approach to God is based on His word, the minister used as an illustration, mortal kings including King Herod who killed John the Baptist on the premise that his promise could not be reversed.
He also cited the case of Pilate who at the point of the crucifixion of Jesus refused the plea to remove the affix ‘King of the Jews’ on the claim, ‘what I have written, I have written.’
He as such said that God’s written or uttered word is irreversible and that anyone who approaches God based on His word would please Him and get the reward for faith in Him.
The minister further charged his audience on the specificity of God’s call on. Citing Jesus, the Christ, as an example, he said that Jesus came to save mankind and because of that endured humiliation, and denigration among others to attain His mission of salvation for mankind.
He similarly mentioned Moses who he said similarly endured humiliation from being a crown prince of Egypt to a forty-year stint as a shepherd in preparation for his call to deliver the Israelites from bondage in Egypt.
“Moses was born to save the people of Israel and he had to go through many stages of life,” Arc. Ugwuanyi said, noting further that many of the stages that Moses passed through were also hidden.
Arc. Ugwuanyi similarly challenged the concept of part-time service in God’s kingdom, saying that everyone is born into the kingdom for full service. “You cannot be a part-time Christian as that would also make you a part-time unbeliever.”
While noting the faithfulness of Moses in his call, and drawing from Luke 16:10-12, the minister observed three yardsticks used for measuring faithfulness. He listed the three as being faithful in that which is least, being faithful in money, and also being faithful in that which belongs to others.
He said that Moses was faithful in these respects noting how as a young man he did not devour the daughters of Jethro.
Bro Ugwuanyi brought his message to a peak by noting how Moses approached the burning bush. According to him, it requires faith for one to remove his eyes from that which is at hand to look at the unusual. According to the preacher, Moses said he would look at the bush, echoing the fact that faith starts with a positive confession. He said that for Moses it was a risk leaving the herd of sheep he was guiding to look the other way.
“Faith is taking the risk of leaving the known for the unknown and what you see determines what you become in life.”
While noting that many other shepherds may have seen the burning bush, he said that it took an act of faith for Moses to go beyond the imagery of the burning bush. He said that unlike many today who are enthralled by miracles Moses did not stop at the miracle but moved beyond to establish a relationship with the maker of the miracle.
According to him Moses’ action of moving beyond the act and miracle established a pathway for him with the maker of the miracle setting the stage for a deeper relationship. That is unlike many who observe miracles and move on, seeking the next miracle.
