In an announcement just made on the X handle of the Ministry of Interior, the Nigerian Government has added Thursday, April 11th, as a public holiday to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.

This decision comes after the initial declaration by the Minister of Interior, Dr Tunji Ojo, who had designated Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9th and 10th, as holidays to mark Eid-El-fitr celebrations.

GWG.ng reports that the adjustment in the holiday schedule follows the declaration by the Sultan of Sokoto that fasting will continue on Tuesday, April 9th, with Eid-el-Fitr festivities slated for Wednesday, April 10th.

The additional public holiday aims to accommodate the shift in the Eid celebration date and allow citizens to fully participate in the joyous occasion. This decision underlines the government’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians have ample opportunity to observe and celebrate religious festivals with their families and communities.

The Ministry of Interior has circulated an update as shown below:

GWG.ng reports that the decision by the Ministry of Interior now extends the Sallah holidays to an unprecedented three-day holiday for the Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.

While the decision is bound to be welcomed by Nigerians who are basking in the revelry of the celebrations, business leaders may be concerned over the losses that they may suffer.
