A mobile police officer who was kidnapped near Kampani hamlet in the Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, has been found dead.

The tragic discovery comes after a confrontation between security forces and bandits in the area, during which the officer was captured.

As previously reported, the incident involved both a police officer and a soldier who were attacked while engaging bandits in the village of Kampani, which borders Taraba State. While the soldier managed to escape, the police officer was less fortunate. His lifeless body was discovered on Sunday in a forested area of Bangalala, according to sources in Wase town who spoke to the Daily Trust.

The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred, has yet to respond to inquiries regarding this development.

In a related incident, the community of Gatawa in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State has turned to prayer as they hope for the safe return of their district head, Isa Muhammad Bawa. The district head, along with his brother and son, was abducted 23 days ago. Last Wednesday, the kidnappers released a video in which the district head pleaded for assistance, stating that the deadline for a N500 million ransom had passed.

The video, verified by Aminu Boza, a Sabon Birni State House of Assembly member, shows the district head in a state of desperation. “Today (Wednesday) is the final day, so if they want to assist me, they should assist me now. I swear to Almighty Allah that even the bandits are tired because they have done their best, but there has been no assistance from the government. I have served the government for about 45 years in the traditional institution,” the district head stated.

The situation has left the residents of Gatawa deeply unsettled, with many unable to find comfort in their homes or community. Malam Mahe, a resident, shared that the community has been fervently praying for divine intervention, as they cannot afford the N500 million ransom demanded by the kidnappers. The residents have lost much of their wealth to banditry and are now pleading with both state and federal authorities to rescue the district head and his relatives.

Although security personnel have maintained relative peace in Gatawa, neighboring communities continue to suffer from bandit raids and kidnappings. The 74-year-old traditional leader, his son, and his younger brother were abducted near Kwanan Maharba along the Goronyo-Sabon Birni Road while returning from Sokoto.
