Helicopter Crash Kills Pilot Amid Wildfires
By Benjamin Abioye

A helicopter crashed on Wednesday while trying to control wildfires in South Korea, killing the pilot.
The accident happened as authorities worked urgently to stop the fast-spreading fires.
According to a Gyeongbuk Fire Service official, the helicopter went down in a mountainous area of Uiseong County while involved in firefighting operations. “We have been told that there was one pilot who was declared dead at the scene.”
The crash occurred during one of the worst wildfire outbreaks in South Korea’s history. Firefighters and emergency responders have been working non-stop to contain the flames, but the situation remains critical.
At least 18 people have died due to the wildfires, making it one of the deadliest outbreaks the country has seen. Acting President Han Duck-soo confirmed the death toll and described the situation as causing “unprecedented damage” across South Korea.
Authorities are also making efforts to protect cultural landmarks threatened by the fires. At Bongjeong Temple in Andong, a UNESCO-listed site, officials rushed to remove valuable Buddha statues and other historical items to keep them safe.
Firefighters were seen carefully loading the artifacts onto a truck to move them away from the approaching flames. The ongoing battle against the wildfires continues, as South Korea faces severe losses from the disaster.
